November 2022 – Global Nutrition Month

November is Global Good Nutrition Month and our team wants to share the extensive nutritional
benefits that hemp food products offer. Hemp has been the recent focus of nutritional studies
and is rapidly gaining popularity. Hemp products like flour, seeds, oil, and even protein powder
are filling the shelves of grocery stores and are proving hemp to be a superfood.

So what exactly do these products have to offer?

The composition of hemp hearts, the white inner meat of the hemp seed, is 35% protein, 46%
Omegas 3, 6, & 9, and 6% fiber. Alternatively understood, in just a 100g serving of hemp hearts
there is 35g of protein, 46g of omega fats, and 6g of fiber. The hemp hearts alone are extremely
nutritious and can be incorporated into sauces, smoothies, yogurts, and baking goods. Hemp
protein powders have been created through the removal of the fats from seeds then refinement
into a powder that can be put into smoothies, oatmeal, and bars. Just 100g of this protein
powder delivers 50 grams of protein and 18 grams of fiber. Protein makes up a third of hemp
flour’s nutritional content, this is significantly more than other flour alternatives such as almond
or coconut flour. Hemp seed oil supplies 90 grams of omega fats, a nutrient component that
many fail to meet. These omega 3’s, 6’s, and 9’s are linked to heart disease prevention and
decreased risk of a heart attack. Many take hemp oil supplements in pill form or mix this oil into
sauces, salad dressings, and marinades.

Hemp Aid recognizes the uniquely dense nutrient content of hemp products and our team hopes
to use this information to combat malnutrition and food insecurity. Though these goals are
always at the forefront of our actions, November is Good Nutrition Month really raises more
awareness and recognition of this topic. The diversity of hemp products and nutrients shows the
great capabilities of this plant and we are thrilled to be battling global issues with it!
